Are you ready to take the next step in your career within automation and robotics? As an automation engineer at Metso, you will have the opportunity to work with international clients in exciting projects, develop innovative solutions, and collaborate with a dedicated team passionate about technology. We look forward to your application!

About the role

As a Senior Automation Engineer at Metso, you will join our EIA team (electrical, instrumentation, and automation) in Kil, which currently consists of about seven specialists. You will become a key player in developing, implementing, and optimizing the control systems and robotics solutions that drive our customers' automated processes worldwide.

The role involves end-to-end responsibility throughout the project lifecycle – from concept and design to machine testing in the workshop and final commissioning at the customer's site. Since we deliver globally, a central part of the position is that you enjoy traveling. Travel is a natural part of the job and can involve stays abroad for up to 8 weeks at a time during major start-ups. In the long term, and as you get settled into the role, we also envision that you can act as a mentor for younger colleagues in the team.

You are offered

  • Growth & Development: Clear learning pathways, mentoring, internal mobility, and opportunities for global collaboration
  • Compensation & Benefits: A competitive salary and a generous benefits package
  • An Inclusive Culture: An open workplace with supportive colleagues committed to helping each other thrive and succeed

Work tasks

  • Develop and adapt PLC programs, HMI solutions, and instrument configurations based on project-specific requirements and testing
  • Perform machine testing in the workshop and handle commissioning at customer sites. Customer visits may range from short service trips lasting a few days to start-ups that can span several weeks over longer periods
  • Create instructions, manuals, and training materials, as well as conduct training sessions for the customer’s technicians and operators
  • Work with machine simulations and ensure that PLC programs and related systems are kept up to date
  • Support other departments with automation-related information and technical assistance

We are looking for you who

  • Holds a post-secondary degree in automation or possesses equivalent work experience.
  • Has several years of experience in PLC programming, preferably in Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley environments.
  • Has excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
  • Has the ability and willingness to travel internationally.
  • Holds a valid driver's license

It is meritorious if you have

  • Experience in robot programming.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley Rockwell systems.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as Enterprise Dynamics, Visual Components, or similar.
  • Experience in automation R&D projects.

Working hours: 08:00–17:00

To succeed in this role, we believe you are structured, responsible, and detail-oriented. You enjoy leading others and communicate clearly both internally and with customers. You are solution-oriented and take initiative, with analytical skills that help improve processes and documentation. Additionally, you are flexible and confident working both independently and as part of a team.

The work is based in Kil or at Metso’s customer sites. If you are applying from another location, please describe in your application how you plan to commute to the workplace.
